Dear North Andover Community,

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Steve Nugent will be the next Director of Athletics at North Andover High School as of July 1, 2021.  Throughout this process, Steve impressed students, faculty and community members with his leadership, his relationship building skills and his overall commitment to the North Andover Athletic Community.

Steve will remain with the North Andover High School community as an administrator and will continue to support our Guidance department in his transition to Athletic Director.  Steve is the longtime Guidance Director and Head Coach for the Boys Indoor and Outdoor Track teams. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association. Steve is a graduate of Saint Anselm's College with a Bachelors in Business and obtained a Masters in Education Psychology at Cambridge College.

We would like to thank the Athletic Director Search Committee for their great work in selecting three strong finalists.  We had an impressive candidate pool of over 75 applicants to choose from.

Thank you for your continuous support to the students and student athletes of North Andover.  Congratulations Steve.

Regards,

Statement Condemning Anti-Semitic Graffiti

posted Jun 12, 2021, 7:36 AM by stasonish@northandoverpublicschools.com   [ updated Jun 12, 2021, 7:37 AM ]

This week, Town offices were alerted to anti-semitic graffiti along the Mills to Hills trail. The Police responded and DPW is working to remove the graffiti.

On behalf of the North Andover Town Offices, North Andover Public Schools, and Town Government, we want to reiterate that acts of discrimination, racism and anti-semitism will not be tolerated or welcomed in our community.

We are a community that embraces our RAISE values, and we will not allow behavior that is not in line with the values that make North Andover so special.
Anti-semitism has no place in our community.  We are a town built on respect, inclusion and empathy.  We encourage all to reaffirm their RAISE values in the coming days.

Chief Gray has increased patrols in the area of the graffiti and we will take the necessary steps to keep our community safe from discrimination, hate and disrespect.

Weather Next Week & Planned Mosquito Control

posted Jun 5, 2021, 3:29 PM by stasonish@northandoverpublicschools.com

Dear NAPS Community,

Please see the updates below regarding next week’s weather and planned mosquito control at NAHS.

Thank you for your continued support.

Gregg T. Gilligan

Weather

In anticipation of some hot days next week, I wanted to ask that you remind your child/children to come to school with sunscreen applied, a water bottle and dressed in lightweight clothing.   We will have students outside as much as possible under the shade of the tents.  Our food services department will provide water jugs and cups in case a child forgets their water bottle or needs additional water.  Our nurses will be available all day to monitor and support any student who is struggling with the heat.

As always, parents may exercise their right to keep a child home from school if they feel attendance will have a negative impact on their child’s health and/or well-being.

Mosquito Control at NAHS

The Town of North Andover, in accordance with our state-approved Integrated Pest Management Plan, will be applying a barrier spray to the perimeter of the High School and football stadium on June 10, 2021 and also applying an ultra-low volume adulticide on June 14, 2021, to control mosquito activity prior to Town Meeting and for the WNV/EEE season. The Department of Public Health advises that fields will be safe to use in the morning.  The schedule for spraying is as follows:

Date:      Barrier Spray - Thursday, June 10, 2021 between the hours of 8:00 pm to 12:00 am

Adulticide - Monday, June 14, 2021 between the hours of 8:00 pm to 12:00 am

The Northeast Mosquito Control’s licensed pesticide applicator is in charge of the barrier and adulticide applications.  The barrier material to be applied is:  Suspend Polyzone (EPA Reg# 432-1514). Active Ingredient: Deltamethrin 4.75%. Suspend Ployzone is an effective barrier formulation that controls adult mosquitoes for up to 90 days.  The adulticide material to be applied is: Zenivex E4-RTU (EPA Reg# 2724-807). Active Ingredient: Etofenprox (CAS #80844-07-1) 4%. Zenivex E4 RTU mosquito adulticide is a high efficacy, reduced-risk adulticide that provides a quick, permanent knockdown and reliable control of adult mosquito populations in any mosquito habitat flying at the time of application. Neither product contains any synergist, therefore no Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO).

Additional information is linked below and hard copies of the documents will also be available at the Superintendent’s office 566 Main Street:

Governor's Announcement

posted May 17, 2021, 7:41 PM by stasonish@northandoverpublicschools.com

Dear NAPS Community,

Consistent with the Governor’s announcement today, effective tomorrow, Tuesday, May 18, 2021, students no longer have to wear masks when outdoors. This updated guidance applies to recess, physical education, youth sports, and outdoor learning environments. Students are welcome to continue to wear a mask outdoors if they so choose. Adults must continue to wear masks outdoors if distancing cannot be maintained. At this time, adults and students must continue to wear masks indoors and on school buses. For all high school athletes, the mask mandate is still in place until further notice from MIAA and we expect to hear from them shortly.

This change was accompanied by additional easing of restrictions on the sharing of classroom materials and other existing COVID-related guidance. In the coming days principals will be following up with families on building specific issues as the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) interprets the new statements from the Governor’s Office.

It is likely that changes will continue to occur quickly, just as they did when we began implementing restrictions over a year ago. I appreciate your patience as we adjust to changing guidance.

As always, thank you for your continued support. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Upcoming School Capacity Public Forums

posted Apr 29, 2021, 12:36 PM by stasonish@northandoverpublicschools.com   [ updated May 4, 2021, 9:30 AM ]

The focus of the School Capacity Sub-Committee is to aid the town in making the best decisions regarding the possible renovation, expansion and construction of schools within our community. Facilities Master Plan, Phase II for the Town of North Andover includes four (4) important school projects; the renovations and possible additions to:

  • Atkinson Elementary
  • Franklin Elementary
  • Kittredge Elementary
  • North Andover Middle School

The goals for these projects include:

  • updating our oldest schools so that they meet code and meet the needs of our students;
  • providing modern facilities conducive to 21st Century learners;
  • ensuring equity among our schools; and
  • providing enough space capacity in our schools to provide needed support services for our students, impact class size, and accommodate enrollment growth going forward.

We will be holding public forums during the month of May in order to provide the community with information regarding these projects and to answer questions and solicit feedback from the community. This feedback will be critical in helping the School Committee finalize its recommendation to the Facilities Master Plan, Phase II Committee. You can also see the planned presentation by clicking on the attached PDF, below.

If you would like to participate, the links for each meeting are listed below:

Thank you, and we hope to see you there.
