Springing Ahead to Allergy Season!! ![]() As Allergy Season quickly approaches, it is important to remember to stock up on physician recommended allergy medications and to start them NOW. Many allergy symptoms can be the same as COVID-19 symptoms, and will be especially hard to manage when mask wearing is involved. It will be important to recognize when symptoms are allergy related so that we can avoid dismissing students and referring for Covid testing unnecessarily. Symptoms include itchy eyes and skin, sneezing, nasal congestion, wheezing, and rash. Seasonal allergies can result from grass, weed, tree pollen, or molds. Cat and dog dander allergies are also common. There are many options for over the counter medications (both oral and eye drops) that if administered daily can help manage uncomfortable allergy symptoms. If you anticipate that your child will be experiencing seasonal allergy symptoms this spring, please ask their pediatrician for a note so that we have record of their diagnosis and any medications they may be taking. NAPS COVID SCREENING GUIDELINES Please continue to monitor your children each day for COVID-19 symptoms and do not send your child to school when sick. Our staff and students are doing an amazing job adhering to our health and safety protocols and procedures here at school! By sending children to school, a caregiver is self-certifying that their child does not have COVID-19 symptoms and that they have considered possible exposure to COVID and made the appropriate decision per these guidelines. Please KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME if they have any of the symptoms listed:
OR: They have had close contact with a person known to be infected with Covid-19 in the last 14 days OR: They have traveled outside of Massachusetts in the past 14 days (except lower risk states) *PLEASE SEE TRAVEL INFO ABOVE* If they have any of the above symptoms, contact your child's primary care provider for further instructions and get them tested for active COVID-19 infection prior to returning to school unless another diagnosis was determined to cause their symptoms. A list of test sites is available here, and Massachusetts also has an interactive testing map. | School NurseElizabeth Marshall, BSN, RN, NCSN
