 I hope you have all enjoyed the first month of school - we sure have here at the Franklin! A lot of great stuff was going on all month. We got to know each other over the first few weeks and had an incredible Welcome Back Picnic. Not to mention Open House, our first pep rally, and a great Franklin game at NAHS Football as we cheered them on for the win! Overall, September was a success! Now it’s up to all of us to continue this momentum as we forge ahead through the next 9 months of school. At our pep rally, our high school visitors gave us great messages of hope and how important it is to be a good person. I know that all of us will continue to work hard, try our best, and do the right thing each and every day. RAISE is such an important part of our lives, especially nowadays, and I applaud the students and staff of Franklin for exhibiting those every step of the way. Keep it up, because our world can certainly use an infusion of RAISE. Looking ahead to October, I’m excited about the teaching and learning that is going to happen now that the staff really knows their students. We also have the Book Fair coming up with our annual Family Fun Night on October 18th from 6-8pm. And we’ll be sending October out in fashion with our now traditional costume day on October 31st. More details about that will come in some weekend updates! When the first month is as smooth at this one was, I can’t help but get excited and hopeful for the rest of the year. This Franklin community never ceases to amaze me, and I know this will be our best year yet! Summer 2017!
 Hey Hey Hey Franklin Families! Can you believe that summer is about half over? I always forget how quickly it goes by. I have been having a blast with my family this summer. We just recently celebrated the twins' 3rd birthday. Their birthday always makes me reflect on my time here too, because I began my adventure as a dad and the Franklin principal during the same summer - what a whirlwind that was! I'm really excited to begin thinking about my 4th year here and all of the wonderful experiences your children will have with our amazing staff each and every day. Speaking of our staff, I have a few announcements. Mrs. O'Loughlin is movin' on up! She will now be our assistant principal part time and Sargent assistant principal part time. Both schools are incredibly lucky to have her! Mrs. Armstrong has moved to Atlanta to be closer to family, and we wish her all the best! Miss Forward will be moving from 2nd to 4th grade and we have a new teacher, Miss Fontaine, gracing our 3rd graders. It's sure to be another stellar year! Class placements will be emailed (as has been past practice) on Monday, August 21st. Something to consider is that a lot of thought and purpose goes into the class placement process, and each and every teacher brings something different and wonderful to the table. However, occasionally children can initially be upset with their class placement. It is not uncommon for a child to initially be perplexed if his/her new teacher is another than expected or unlike the style of last year’s teacher. Also, it is not uncommon for someone to hear that “so-and-so” is the only and best teacher to have in “such-and-such” grade. Sometimes, too, a student will initially feel his/her teacher is “too mean” or “too strict” or “too” something else. Fortunately, once given a chance to succeed at adapting to a new classroom and building a new student-teacher relationship, most parents (and children!) discover that their child’s placement is working well after all. Remember, placement was carefully selected for your child and we always keep their best interests at heart. Now, go enjoy the rest of your summer, and we'll see you real soon! Thanks, Mr. Clarke |
