The Anne Bradstreet Poetry Contest - Submissions due April 30th
This spring, in honor of Anne Bradstreet, North Andover is having a poetry contest! All who live or work or go to school in North Andover are invited to take part.
Our town is the home of America's first published poet, Anne Bradstreet (1612-1672). Anne arrived here at the very founding of the town in the early 1640's with her husband and their young children. She made her life in that frontier settlement, and made her mark in the world of poetry. Her first collection, "The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America", was widely read in America and England, an uncommon achievement for a woman in the post-Elizabethan English world.
Anne lived and raised her family - and wrote her poetry - right here. As a group of poets on the Poet Laureate Committee, Anne is an inspiration to all of us. This is why we named the contest after her.
In her spirit, we are inviting all members of the North Andover community to submit a poem on this theme:
"A New Vision for America - What is Your Dream?"
.
Since we’re poets, we bring you the rules – in rhyme!

How do I enter? How does it work?

This subcommittee will look at the school buildings across the district to consider the best configurations for capacity to best promote teaching and learning for the students of North Andover. The subcommittee will review the space study to be commissioned by the Superintendent and Town Manager. The subcommittee will develop options and engage the public to gather input, vet and respond to plans. The subcommittee will bring its recommendations to the School Committee for a vote by June 2021. Welcome Back! Info for Families
Dear Kittredge Community, As principal of the Kittredge Elementary School it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year at our beloved school. We are excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. It is our mission to help every student feel welcomed, connected and a part of our Kittredge family. Additionally, we strive to challenge each student to grow in their academic abilities by the year end. Our teachers use research- based best practices and analyze academic data to determine current skill levels and to set goals for growth and improvement. I acknowledge that we are starting off the year with a different set of challenges that are far from any other school experience. While COVID-19 has shifted learning practice to the hybrid model, our staff remains steadfast in our continued commitment to academic excellence, innovative practices, school safety, and providing excellent teaching and learning opportunities. We are working hard to prepare for the 2020-2021 school year. Our focus continues to center around the safety of our students, staff, and families. Your child’s elementary experience at Kittredge School will be filled with many opportunities to expand their knowledge, develop new interests, discover new skills, build new friendships, and have fun. Students will be exposed to several different approaches to learning such as listening, reading, writing, speaking, hands-on learning, and critical thinking. The beginning of the year can be an exciting, celebratory time, but I can imagine you have many questions surrounding our reopening. More than ever, we aim to be in an effective partnership with families as we both work to make each day a positive experience for our students. I am honored to serve as the principal of Kittredge Elementary School. It is truly a privilege to be part of a community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth. Sincerely, Richard Cushing Principal |

Beyond the Classroom
With the three school cancellations in December, we have used up our traditional “snow days” for this year. Our last day of school will be Friday, June 19. For any future snow days, we will be using our Beyond the Classroom assignments. With Beyond the Classroom, students will complete an assignment at home in lieu of making up the cancelled day in June. (As you might remember, in 2017-18 our students didn’t finish the school year until June 27th!) So, what happens when school is cancelled again? If school needs to be cancelled again this school year, it will be announced through the usual channels: on the District Homepage, on Dr. Gilligan's Twitter account, and via phone calls and emails home. In these messages, students and guardians will be directed to the Beyond the Classroom website to find their assignments: Assignments will NOT be due the day students return to school. Instead, students will have at least 1 week to complete the assignment. Have more questions or need more information? Please visit the Frequently Asked Questions page on the Beyond the Classroom website |
