Dear North Andover High School students, parents and guardians,

We are writing today with an important update to our message last week about the Massachusetts Department of Education’s new DESE Student Learning Time Regulations for daily live interaction with asynchronous students.

We had notified you on January 8 that based on these new requirements, students on asynchronous days would have a minimum of 12 minutes of live interaction with teachers. Based on further discussion and valuable input from our educators, we have adjusted that model to a minimum of 20 minutes of live consecutive instruction. We all believe this additional time will provide a more educationally sound opportunity for our staff and students to connect every day. This will also increase our structured learning time to 36 hours. With this adjustment, students will be released for lunch at 1:30 p.m.

The updated information and schedules are attached.

We continue to be so impressed at the creativity and flexibility of our educators, students, and parents in adapting to this new learning environment during the pandemic. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gregg T. Gilligan, Superintendent

Dr. James Mealey, Assistant Superintendent

Lorene Marx, Assistant Superintendent

Principal Chet Jackson, NAHS
