Final Message to Grade 8 Families - June 15, 2021

posted Jun 15, 2021, 5:16 PM by Jorge Goncalves

Good evening NAMS Grade 8 families,

The purpose of this message is to provide you with final reminders about tomorrow’s Promotion & Awards Ceremonies and a few other reminders. You may find all of the information below in a google doc found here.

You may find the presentation I shared with grade 8 students here and a video explaining it here. I would encourage all OLA students who will be attending the ceremonies tomorrow to please review the presentation and video.

Grade 8 Promotion & Awards Ceremonies

Each of our Grade 8 Team’s Promotion & Awards Ceremonies will take place outside (weather dependent) at Hayes Stadium on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. Hayes Stadium is the fenced-in track and field behind NAMS and next to the ABECC and Atkinson Elementary School.

Each ceremony will take place at the following times:

  • Team 8A (10:00-10:45)

  • Team 8B (11:15-12:00)

  • Team 8C (12:30-1:15)

Recognizing that ceremonies are scheduled 30 minutes apart, we would ask that the bleachers and field are cleared for the next students and families soon after the end of each ceremony.

Dismissing Students - Survey will be closed at 6:00 a.m. on June 16th

If you wish to dismiss your child after the ceremony, please complete the google form found here. If you wish to dismiss your child and did not complete this google form, you will need to complete a sign out log. There will be staff members outside of the gate assisting with dismissal. One table will be for parents/guardians who completed the google form ahead of time and the other table will be for parents/guardians who did not. Parents/Guardians are only able to dismiss someone else’s child if that child’s parents/guardians completed the google form or you have a signed dismissal note from the child’s parents/guardians.

Additionally, if you are choosing to dismiss a sibling please follow our normal protocols outlined below.

NAMS Dismissal Protocols

When it is necessary to be dismissed early for a doctor’s appointment or other personal business, the student must bring a note from the parent/guardian stating the reason and the time for early dismissal.  This note must be brought to the office before homeroom. Parents/Guardians may also email Lisa Hunter and Melissa Barron by 8:00 a.m. with the name of the student being dismissed, the reason for the dismissal, and the time of dismissal. Their emails are as follows: hunterl@northandoverpublicschools.com & barronm@northandoverpublicschools.com

If neither a note is brought to the main office or a dismissal email is sent, a parent/guardian must pick his/her/their child up at the office and fill out a dismissal form. Unexpected dismissals may take additional time due to students being outside away from the building for snack or outside classes.

Due to bus line ups and congested traffic, we strongly discourage parents/guardians from dismissing their child after 1:45 p.m.

All Promotion & Awards Ceremonies Maps

Video & Pictures

NA CAM will be filming this event whether it is inside or outside and a photographer from Geskus Photography, our school photographer, will be taking pictures of each student as they exit the stage. These pictures along with a NAMS Class of 2021 Mosaic print will be available for families to purchase after the event. Geskus will be providing parents/guardians unique codes to view their child’s picture before ordering.

Seating

Families will be able to sit in the smaller bleachers facing our students, who will be on the field within the track. Additional seats will also be set up on the track facing the stage and students. Families can also stand along the fence around the track and even bring their own chairs if they wish.

Recommended Attire for Promotion & Awards Ceremonies

This is the most formal event that takes place at NAMS. As such, students normally wear shirts and ties with comfortable shoes, sun dresses with comfortable shoes, polo shirts if a tie isn’t worn, and pants or dresses instead of shorts.

Promotion & Award Ceremonies Parking

There are approximately 50 parking spots available in our back parking lot, closest parking to Hayes Stadium, on a typical day. Additional parking may be found in the surrounding neighborhoods. If you are parking in the surrounding neighborhoods, we ask that you do not block driveways and fire hydrants. Please also leave space between the front of your car and a connecting street to keep lines of sight available for through traffic. The small parking lot closest to the field will be handicap parking only for this event, please see the maps below.

Restrooms for Promotion & Awards Ceremony

There are 2 Porta Potties available just outside of the Hayes Stadium gate. Their location is marked on the map below.

Meeting with Students after the Ceremony

We ask that families and students immediately exit the field and bleachers after the ceremony so that students and families for the next ceremony may find seats. You may meet your child in one of two areas marked on the map below outside of the track. Parking spots will become available as families exit the event.

Parent/Guardian-Organized Trip to Canobie Lake Park - June 18, 2021

I have received a few questions regarding this trip and wanted to share how I have been responding. This is not an organized school event and attendance is completely voluntary. Some families decided to take their students to Canobie Lake Park on Friday, June 18th and thought it would be nice to invite the entire NAMS Class of 2021.

Let's continue to celebrate the NAMS 8th graders as they move on to High School! Please join fellow 8th graders at Canobie Lake Park on Friday, June 18th. Tickets can be purchased online https://www.canobie.com/buy-tickets/

We hope to see you there!

Thank you,

Jorge Goncalves
