Planting Seeds of Positivity!

posted May 28, 2021, 7:50 AM by stasonish@northandoverpublicschools.com

"Look How We Have Grown From What We Have Gained" was an activity that Sargent worked on for their Seeds of Positivity project. Each student was able to share a photo and message about how they have grown during this year. From the Sargent guidance counselor Jillian Connally: "These videos serve as an important reminder of how much we have all overcome this year. Through perseverance and teamwork we have become a stronger, more united Sargent community, and all students and staff should be so proud of their accomplishments!" Below are the links to the videos for each grade level:

Participate in a School Capacity Public Forum

posted May 10, 2021, 12:36 PM by stasonish@northandoverpublicschools.com

The focus of the School Capacity Sub-Committee is to aid the town in making the best decisions regarding the possible renovation, expansion and construction of schools within our community. We will be holding public forums during the month of May in order to provide the community with information regarding these projects and to answer questions and solicit feedback from the community. This feedback will be critical in helping the School Committee finalize its recommendation to the Facilities Master Plan, Phase II Committee. You can also see the planned presentation here.

If you would like to participate, the links for each meeting are listed below:

Thank you, and we hope to see you there.

The Anne Bradstreet Poetry Contest - Submissions due April 30th

posted Apr 14, 2021, 9:57 AM by stasonish@northandoverpublicschools.com

This spring, in honor of Anne Bradstreet, North Andover is having a poetry contest! All who live or work or go to school in North Andover are invited to take part.

Our town is the home of America's first published poet, Anne Bradstreet (1612-1672). Anne arrived here at the very founding of the town in the early 1640's with her husband and their young children. She made her life in that frontier settlement, and made her mark in the world of poetry. Her first collection, "The Tenth Muse Lately Sprung Up in America", was widely read in America and England, an uncommon achievement for a woman in the post-Elizabethan English world.

Anne lived and raised her family - and wrote her poetry - right here. As a group of poets on the Poet Laureate Committee, Anne is an inspiration to all of us. This is why we named the contest after her.
In her spirit, we are inviting all members of the North Andover community to submit a poem on this theme:

"A New Vision for America - What is Your Dream?"
.
Since we’re poets, we bring you the rules – in rhyme! 😊
.
How do I enter? How does it work?
Fear not! We wrote a poem to clear up the murk!
Send us a poem on this special theme –
A New Vision for America – What Is Your Dream?
.
It can be about the grand or the very smallest of things –
It can be about people or places – what makes you sing?
We’re calling North Andover, the old and the young –
Enter Anne’s poetry contest, it’s new for 2021!
.
Use the contest email, choose the right category –
Open to adults, high school, middle, or elementary!
Tell us your dream for America – share the thoughts in your head –
We’ll invite all the winners – to read on a stage of blue white and red!

Opportunity to Serve on the School Committee School Capacity Planning Subcommittee

posted Nov 27, 2020, 6:41 AM by stasonish@northandoverpublicschools.com

This subcommittee will look at the school buildings across the district to consider the best configurations for capacity to best promote teaching and learning for the students of North Andover.

The subcommittee will review the space study to be commissioned by the Superintendent and Town Manager.  The subcommittee will develop options and engage the public to gather input, vet and respond to plans.  The subcommittee will bring its recommendations to the School Committee for a vote by June 2021.

This work is concurrent with the MSBA funding proposal for the middle school.  The work of this subcommittee will parallel and inform the work of the Facilities Master Plan II Committee.  With Town Meeting approval in May 2022, it is anticipated the town will commission a school building plan to begin work on the first of a series of projects in FY23 to be overseen by the School Building Committee.

The subcommittee will consist of the subcommittee Chair, the Assistant Superintendent for Facilities, faculty/staff, parents and community members who represent a cross section of the stakeholders with a focus on elementary and middle school interests. The School Committee Chair will serve on the subcommittee ex officio.

Those who wish to serve on the subcommittee can submit a letter of interest to the subcommittee chair, Holly Vietzke-Lynch with their availability, background and reason they wish to serve.  vietzke-lynchh@northandoverpublicschools.com

Sargent Welcome Video

posted Sep 23, 2020, 6:21 PM by stasonish@northandoverpublicschools.com

Good afternoon Sargent families,

Today during remote learning your children reviewed the following video with their classroom teacher. Their teacher answered many questions and reviewed what the day will look like for your children upon arrival at school tomorrow. Our goal is to create a welcoming transition and ease any anxiety about returning to school.  I would like to share the video with you in order to put your concerns at ease and allow you the opportunity to discuss the topics mentioned with your children tonight. We have anticipated this day with great excitement and preparation to ensure that every child knows they are safe, feels they belong, and are well-cared for. We will have 'all hands on deck' outside and inside the building to see that every child is supported.

Here is the video link: https://cutt.ly/sargentwelcome

I am grateful to our leadership team of Ellen Peters, Asst. Principal, Deb Holman, Special Education Administrator, Jillian Connally, Guidance Counselor, Michelle Downey, Special Education teacher, and Lisa Kramer, Administrative Assistant for their help in putting these videos together.

Cheers to all Sharks!

Principal Lahey
